Most first-time safari travellers see two numbers online. One says USD 250 per person per day. The other says USD 1,500. The difference is your Kenya safari price by season. This guide uses current park fees, real conservancies, and realistic seven-day examples. No vague from pricing.
What a Kenya safari price includes
A ground safari price is per person per night sharing a double room. It includes accommodation, meals, game drives in a shared 4×4, park fees, and a driver guide. It excludes international flights, visas, tips, premium alcohol, and optional flights. Nairobi to Lake Nakuru is 160 km and under three hours by road. Nairobi to Amboseli is 240 km and four hours. Nairobi to Naboisho Conservancy gate is about 270 km and five to six hours. That time matters on a short itinerary.
Kenya safari price by season: peak, shoulder, and green
Safari seasons split into three rough price bands. Peak runs July to October. Shoulder covers January, February, June, and sometimes late October. Green or low season runs March to May and November, with a festive spike in late December.

These are indicative shared-vehicle rates, excluding international flights. Luxury camps run USD 800 to USD 1,500 per person per day in peak season. Budget camps can dip below USD 250 in green season.
Peak season: July to October migration prices
This is the most expensive window. The Masai Mara National Reserve fee is USD 100 per adult per day from January through June, then USD 200 from July through December. That fee is set by Narok County, not KWS. Camps near the reserve fill first and add minimum stays. Private conservancies such as Mara North and Naboisho limit vehicle numbers and still hold resident lion, leopard, and elephant. Their conservancy fee is USD 80 to USD 150 per person per night, usually included in the camp rate. You may avoid the daily USD 200 reserve fee on days you do not enter the reserve.
Shoulder season: January, February, June, and sometimes October
Shoulder months often deliver the best value for a first-timer. January and February are dry, with fewer vehicles than July. The grass is shorter, so sightings are easier. Low or green season: March to May and November
This is the cheapest time, with honest trade-offs. April and May are the wettest months in the Mara and central Kenya. Some small camps close for maintenance. Black cotton soil turns slippery, so drives take longer. Resident wildlife does not leave. You will see fewer minibuses and may have a sighting to yourself. November is odd. The Mara reserve fee is still USD 200 per day because the county high season window runs through December. But conservancy stays can save hundreds of dollars per person against July. Seven-night Kenya safari price examples
A common question is what a seven-night safari costs. The table uses current park fees and real camp categories. Prices are per person sharing, exclude international flights, and include park or conservancy fees, meals, and shared vehicle game drives.

A three-night version costs 40 to 50 percent less in total, but the per-night rate is higher because transfers spread over fewer safari days. A five-night trip is the sweet spot for many first-timers.
Park entrance fees that move the total
Kenya raised non-resident park fees in October 2025. These daily adult fees appear on your invoice before you pay the camp.
- Masai Mara National Reserve, Narok County, not KWS: USD 100 January through June, USD 200 July through December.
- Amboseli National Park, KWS: USD 90.
- Lake Nakuru National Park, KWS: USD 90.
- Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Park, KWS: USD 80.
- Chyulu Hills National Park, KWS: USD 40.
- Nairobi National Park, KWS: USD 80.
- Naboisho Conservancy and Mara North Conservancy: USD 80 to USD 150 per person per night, usually included in the camp rate.
This is why a five-night Maasai Mara reserve safari in August adds USD 1,000 per person in park fees. A five-night Amboseli plus Nakuru safari in the same month adds USD 450. Choosing Amboseli and Nakuru outside the Mara is one of the clearest budget moves.
Festive season pricing around Christmas and New Year
Late December and the first week of January are their own high season. Many lodges add a festive supplement of USD 50 to USD 100 per person per night. Minimum stays of three to five nights are common. The Mara reserve fee is still USD 200 per adult per day in December. Book nine to twelve months ahead for Christmas dates.
Group size and private versus shared vehicles
Shared vehicles spread guide, fuel, and park costs across more people. A shared six-seat Land Cruiser often lowers per-person cost by USD 100 to USD 200 per day compared with a private vehicle for two. A private vehicle gives you full control. When to book for the best rates
Peak season July to October should be booked nine to twelve months ahead. Shoulder months need four to six months. Green season can be booked two to three months out, but check camp closures first. Early booking locks current rates. Last-minute green deals exist but are less predictable than a planned shoulder trip.
