Rift Valley Lakes Extended: Bogoria & Elmenteita

5 days · From $1580 per person · Easy pace · 2-8 guests

Overview

Beyond the well-known Naivasha-Nakuru circuit, the Rift Valley holds a string of lesser-visited lakes worth the extra distance. Lake Elmenteita, a private-conservancy-adjacent soda lake, holds a major white pelican breeding colony and often significant flamingo numbers when Nakuru’s have moved on. Lake Bogoria, further north, is genuinely different again: a hot-spring and geyser system along the shoreline that’s unlike anywhere else on this list, alongside its own resident flamingo population. This extended circuit is built for repeat Kenya visitors who’ve already done Naivasha and Nakuru and want the deeper cut of the same landscape.

Highlights

  • Lake Elmenteita’s major white pelican breeding colony
  • Lake Bogoria’s hot springs and geysers along the shoreline, genuinely unusual scenery
  • A quieter, less-visited alternative to the standard Naivasha-Nakuru circuit
  • Strong flamingo numbers at whichever lake conditions favour that season
  • A good deeper-cut add-on for guests who’ve already done the classic Rift Valley stops

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this better than the standard Nakuru & Naivasha circuit?

Not better, different, it’s built for guests who’ve already done that circuit and want to go further into the same landscape rather than repeat it.

Are the hot springs safe to be near?

Yes, walks keep a sensible distance from the actual boiling geyser vents, which your guide will point out clearly, this isn’t a swimming stop.
