Laikipia Slow Safari
5 days · From $2280 per person · Easy pace · 2-6 guests
Overview
Laikipia isn’t a national park, it’s a patchwork of private conservancies across the central Kenyan highlands north of Mount Kenya, and that changes what a stay here can actually look like: lower visitor caps, off-road access most reserves prohibit, and enough room to genuinely slow down. This is our ‘fewer stops, longer stays’ flagship, five full nights at a single lodge with nowhere else on the schedule, built for travellers who’ve already ticked off the Mara or Amboseli and now want to properly sit with one exceptional piece of Kenya instead of covering more ground. The conservancy holds one of the highest black and white rhino densities left in the country, alongside healthy wild dog packs, and Mount Kenya on the horizon on a clear day.
Highlights
- Five nights at one lodge, no other stops, no repacking
- One of Kenya’s highest rhino densities, seen at a genuinely unhurried pace
- Private conservancy access most national-reserve itineraries can’t offer
- Wild dog sightings, a species increasingly hard to find elsewhere in Kenya
- Mount Kenya visible across the plateau on clear mornings

Day 1: Nairobi to Laikipia

Day 3: A day off the schedule
Genuinely open, no fixed plan: a slow morning drive if you want one, or simply time at the lodge watching the plateau.

Frequently Asked Questions
Isn’t five days in one place too slow?
That’s the point of this particular trip. If you’d rather cover more ground, our Grand Kenya Plains Safari does that; this one is built for people who’ve decided they’d rather go deep than wide.
How does Laikipia differ from a national reserve safari?
Private conservancy status means lower visitor caps, off-road driving where reserves prohibit it, and a pace of life that a busier reserve simply can’t offer.
